Whilst there are many entry points into Surf Life Saving, the Bronze Medallion is the most common and has been a lifesaving standard award for over one hundred years. Initially developed in England by the Royal Lifesaving Society in 1892; the Bronze Medallion has been adapted over time by Surf Life Saving Australia to suit the aquatic environmental conditions of Australia.
The Bronze Medallion course provides you with the skills and knowledge to become a surf lifesaver for patrolling and water safety. This helps to keep yourself and others around you safer in an aquatic environment and enables you to perform such activities as aquatic rescues, communications, emergency care and first aid.
There are multiply options for undertaking your Bronze Medallion Course, as outlined below.

Bronze Medallion (BM 1 Course) runs over four weeks from Wednesday 8 November to Saturday 2 December 2023. For further information on this option click here Option 1: Bronze Medallion (BM1) - November 2023
Bronze Medallion Bridging (BMB 3) is a transition program - Surf Rescue Certificate to Bronze Medallion. This is a five (5) day camp that runs from Monday December 18 – Friday December 22 and covers a team building day on the Friday (includes 4 nights sleepover at Bellbrae Camp and coincides with the Full Course BM camp) and runs for 29 hours (plus eLearning). NB: The BMB 3 course assessment is planned to finish on Thursday 21 December
Full Bronze Medallion Course is for new members or those returning after a gap or 60 months or more in BM requalification. This is a 7 Day camp;
